Field trip to Naurzum National Park

On June 28, ReKKS team visited Naurzum National Park, which offers the unique opportunity to compare soils under natural (and never cultivated) steppe and differently agriculturally cultivated soils situated in close vicinity. With great help of Prof. Evgeny Bragin and Prof. Tatyana Bragina (Kostanay State Pedagogical University), the ReKKS  team got permission from  Mr. Dulat Gauezhanovich Koilibaev – the head of the reserve to work in the National Park. During the field work at the border of the national park, there was also a fruitful conversation with the Director of the agricultural department of the enterprise TOO "Dievskaya"(http://www.llk.kz/content/41438/?letter=%D2,http://dievka.kz/rastenievodstvo/), Ospanov Tolendi Temirhanovich . What is interesting about the Dievskaya farm is that it works at the dry limit for arable farming and produces low yields per hectare. However, the quality of the durum wheat produced is extraordinarily high, so the financial yield is good. Starting from the southernmost locations in/at Naurzum National Park, a second north-south climate gradient is created in the Kostanay region in addition to the first north-south climate gradient in the Akmola region and the east-west climate gradient in northern Kazakhstan. This leads us to expect more general statements.
